Damn Jackals, Madalean Gauze, Party Muscles
Here’s how it’s gone according to me:
We released our debut album in February of last year.
We thought it was pretty good. I was happy with the way all the songs sounded musically. I think I could have written better lyrics for a lot of the album. This is besides the point. I’m supposed to be writing a bio for the band. I wrote the last one we had up – I bet it’ll still be up or around somewhere, something about us “playing music in between kitchen shifts and last call”. That was true then.
After the album released we booked a tour across the country. We knew we were going to move out of Richmond – the idea was to explore our options, test drive a few cities to figure out where we wanted to go while playing shows. In the past we’d gone on weekend or week long tours that we’d broke more or less even on and we figured we’d do about the same driving all the way to the west coast from Virginia. We all went broke. David moved in with his brother, I moved back in with my folks, and Leland spent his time couchsurfing while we tried to save up money to move to what we decided our most practical option was: Philadelphia.
This album is about things that have happened and ways we’ve felt since we released the last record. A bunch of fun topics like drug use, paranoia, and losing hope. With some luck people will enjoy this, and the next record will be less about how broke we are.
